About our work

The study wanted to find out about the services offered by the Highland Hospice, what people thought about these palliative care services and what services people wanted to be developed in the future. We asked about these experiences to help Highland Hospice staff improve services for people during the palliative phase of their illness. We made recommendations for the future of the services for the next 10 - 15 years.

How did we carry out our work?

We interviewed patients who had contact with the Highland Hospice staff, Community Macmillan Nurses, Marie Curie Staff, their local GP or the hospital based palliative care team. We also interviewed the informal carers of many of these patients. We also interviewed and held small discussion groups with hospice professionals and key stakeholders.

Who did we work with?

Professor Nora Kearney, Lisa McCann and Dr Bridget Johnston worked on this project.

Funding Organisation

The research project was funded by the Highland Hospice. Please contact Lisa McCann for more information on the project.
