The objectives are to:

  • Identify key literature about employment and cancer
  • Categorise the literature under key topics
  • Summarise key findings and conclusions of this literature
  • Identify gaps in research evidence

How will the study be carried out?

The researcher will identify research papers which meet the review inclusion criteria.

Why is this research important?

Better Cancer Care, An Action Plan (Scottish Government, 2008) identifies returning to work for people diagnosed with cancer as a major issue. It reports that the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives, part of NHS Health Scotland, will bring a national perspective to initiatives designed to support people with cancer back into work. The purpose of this scoping of literature is to assist the work of the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives to support people with cancer back into work. It is important to identify from the literature how much is currently understood about the needs of this group so we can identify what we need to learn more about and what supports should be in place.

Who are we working with?

Dr Gill Hubbard, Senior Research Fellow at the CCRC is the project manager for this review. Dr Nicola Illingworth, Research Fellow CCRC is conducting this review.

When will this review take place?

The review will begin on the 1st of April 2009 and be completed by 31st May 2009
