Summary of patients' views

About our work

This project has now completed.

Cancer occurs most often and causes more deaths in the elderly population. Previous research has found that the care and treatment of older people is often not as well delivered as care given to younger people. This difference has not been fully explained.

We spoke to older people to find out their views and feelings about information, decision making and treatment, following their diagnosis of cancer.

Preliminary analysis of data collected to date has identified important issues for research and clinical practice. These include a better understanding of how older people make decisions, their views on side-effects and what they want from treatment.
