About our work
The main aim of this study is to find out, in patients with lung cancer, their experiences of symptoms, especially when they have experienced lots of symptoms at the same time. It is hoped that this will lead to a better understanding of what it is like for patients with cancer experiencing lots of symptoms and help develop better ways in which to manage them.
Who will take part and what do they have to do?
Patients with lung cancer will be asked to take part in the study. Those who agree to participate will be asked to take part in 2 in-depth interviews, 3-5 weeks apart, to talk about their life and experiences since being diagnosed with lung cancer, with particular reference to their experience of symptoms at this time.
Why is this research important?
In order to develop effective ways in which to manage symptoms, it is important that we find out and understand what it is like for patients with cancer who experience these symptoms. By doing this, we can make sure that ways in which to manage symptoms are based on their experiences and meet their needs.
When is the research project due to be completed?
The study started in January 2007 and completion is expected by December 2007. The final thesis is expected to be completed in 2009.
